A new spin on the heirloom diamond
When I was first engaged to my husband, he asked what kind of ring I wanted him to buy for me. I told him to hold off on shopping until I could find out what became of my late grandmother's wedding rings. As the youngest of 10 grandchildren, I knew it was unlikely that this family heirloom could be mine, so I wasn't too surprised to learn that my Marma's diamond was on my cousin's wife's finger. I got another diamond and all was well, but new developments in science and marketing may forever put an end to dilemmas like mine. Sure, only one person can inherit the original diamond belonging to the family matriarch, but thanks to the folks at LifeGem, scientists will create a new diamond from the carbon in the remains of your dearly departed -- not just a family heirloom, but an heirloom made from family!
Think this idea may make your girlfriend queasy? Leave out the specifics. "This is from my grandma," is all you have to say ...
