Don't store your dress, trash it!
Filed under: Fashion, Keeping the Memory
Your wedding is over and you're wondering what to do with your gown. Store it? Sell it? Donate it?How about trashing it? Put on the gown and head to the beach or a construction site or the railroad tracks, and roll around on the ground while a photographer takes your photo. Get the dress wet and dirty; paint it, tear it, destroy it. The sky's the limit, as long as the dress is ruined.
Why would you do that? Mark Eric at Trash the Dress offers this answer: "Why? . . . Why not? You've made a commitment to your husband. He's your one and only true love, right? Then you'll never need the dress again. And no, your daughter won't wear it in 20-30 years." Eric goes on to suggest that you "Show your husband how committed you are by trashing the dress, and get some great fun pictures while you do it!"
It is possible that I am just old and unhip, but honestly I can think of significantly better ways to show your husband how committed you are. I can also think of better things to do with your wedding gown. And it seems to me that if wearing the gown leaves you feeling angry or constrained enough to need to destroy it, then maybe the wedding gown isn't the right thing for you (in which case I suggest you grab a copy of Offbeat Bride).
What say you -- will YOU be trashing your gown?
