Wedding by webcam?

Planning a destination wedding in Barbados or having Elvis marry you in Las Vegas? Using a webcam may be the perfect way to include friends and family who can't make it to share your special day.
As Meg Massie pointed out in her blog, many couples are looking at alternatives for including guests.
Destination weddings are great, but it could cost a fortune to pay for a hundred or more guests to travel and have lodging. And asking family and friends to chuck out a lot of money to attend your wedding isn't exactly in good taste either. Many times, couples end up inviting and paying for immediate family members and close friends for the ceremony.
Now, with webcams, everyone can be at the wedding ... sort of. Many popular honeymoon destinations like Las Vegas have wedding packages that include a webcam broadcast of your ceremony for family and friends to view online.
You can find many wedding chapels online, like the infamous Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, that indicate whether they offer webcam service. Some places may charge an additional fee for a webcam so ask up front.
If a venue doesn't have access to a webcam, you can try to contract with an outside company to host the live broadcasting of your wedding, as this site suggests. Again, if you choose this route, get pricing details ahead of time. Also, check how long the wedding will be accessible online.
You may even be able to do it yourself by using a techie friend or family member to setup the webcam and online broadcast. It would save you a bundle, but make sure your wedding venue allows those kinds of recordings.
If you feel strange having a webcam broadcast of your wedding online, try having your wedding digitally filmed so that you can easily have it burned to DVD. That way, you can send the DVD to those who couldn't attend your wedding along with a nice note along the lines of saying, "We're sorry we couldn't spend our big day with you, but we thought about you and imagined you were there with us. Please enjoy this DVD of our wedding."
