Alright, I'm not necessarily encouraging you to go the iridescent route, but just look at the detail on Marcia Cross' 2007 Emmy's gown. Look at it! Granted, she did herself a huge favor by opting for a gorgeous emerald green hue to complement her tresses and complexion, but the dress would be a stunner regardless of color or fabric (white silk shantung would work for all you little fashionista brides out there). I just want to steal it and wear it to work everyday!
The fitted bodice has gathers and ruching, bringing your eye to the incredible embellishment in the center of her bodice. Now I know we don't all have a long, slim torso like Marcia, but the detail on the bodice here would work for any body type. If the style of the gown already has gathers and wrinkles throughout the bodice, that's going to hide any creases one's belly might cause.
While the skirt of this particular gown is full and flowing, it keeps a slim line around the hips, making the torso look long and lean. This look will work for you if your hips are not a major challenge point for you -- if your hips are substantially larger than your waist, simply adapt this look by opting for a higher waistline, which will accentuate your itty-bitty midsection and hide any below-the-belt bulges that might bother you.
Complimenting the fabulous features of this dress are low-key, soft curls around the face and an emphasis on the eyes. The makeup and hair are flattering, but allow the focus to remain on the gown, which brings the attention back to the individual it adorns.

Love the 'Red Carpet to Altar' fashion tips about bringing Hollywood glam to the wedding aisle. We are not all traditional style brides, and it's helpful to know which look might work best on what body type. I'm hoping to see a few more star styles.
