WoW Insider is getting ready for BlizzCon!
You're getting married. It's your second wedding, which means you already have a ring. NO, you're not going to save yourselves a few bucks by re-using your old ring! So, what do you do with the old one?

There is a middle position between tossing it and re-using it. After all, however your first marriage ended, by death or divorce, it did contribute to who you are today. Maybe it even helped learn a few hard lessons that will make you a better spouse to your new partner, (or improved your powers of discrimination in choosing potential partners!).

A creative and symbolic way to deal with the old ring is to take it to a goldsmith and have it melted down. The value of the pure gold that is thus extracted is put toward your new ring. (Remember, gold being such a soft metal, there's always some alloy in a gold band to give it strength. The alloy doesn't count when the goldsmith melts the ring down, only the gold.) Some people don't mind the old gold being used in the new ring; others prefer the artist put only new gold into their new band.

There. The old band is gone, the dross burned away, and what was of value in it is put towards your new band. Pretty symbolic for what you've gone through, too, isn't it?
