I have multiple facial piercings, stretched ears, and visible tattoos [shoulders and collarbones]... I wore them VERY proudly on my OWN wedding day, as my husband wore his tattoos and long hair.
Should I ever be asked to stand with someone, they can either deal with me as I am, or they can have me in the audience. Inviting someone and then telling them, "But I'd like you to come as I want you to be, not as you are" is rude and hurtful, and I would find it hard to continue a friendship after that.
