Once upon a time (about five years ago), I was having a local photographer do some professional head shots for me at Lake Alice, which is on the University of Florida campus. I had asked a girlfriend to come with me so I'd have someone objective around, letting me know if I looked like an idiot, but surprise surprise, my boyfriend, Jared, showed up as well.He and I had a history with Lake Alice -- the 4th of July after I'd moved to Florida from Michigan, I had run into him at a bar and we danced and talked (we'd met casually once or twice before). When it came time to leave, I complained that I'd never seen an alligator, and so with some of our friends we went on down to Lake Alice to see alligators.
Anyway, at one point while alligator hunting, he and I ended up behind this big ol' tree, and we were really close, and ... he TOTALLY didn't kiss me. But, he drive me home, stayed in his truck like a gentleman, and gave me a rather ungentlemanly kiss before he left. After that, I was hooked.
Back to five years ago ... so I finish the photo shoot, and we're getting ready to leave, and Jared asks the photographer to take just one more picture, this time of both of us in front our "our tree." He took the picture, and then Jared turned to me and said, "I should've done this two years ago," and kissed me. And then, he got down on one knee, pulled out a ring, and asked me to marry him. After about 50 OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGODs, I finally said yes (and yes, that's our actual picture from the proposal you see to the side).
He had brought sparkling wine from a winery we both really like, and had my friends and family ready for my call (he'd even tracked my parents down in Wawa, Ontario, where they were without a phone, to ask my father's permission). It was absolutely wonderful, and yes, I'm a little partial, but even so, it's a good story! And we used the pictures for our Save the Date cards!
