It came as a shock to me to read that wedding invitations are "supposed" to be addressed using calligraphy. Frankly, I think that "rule" was made up either by an invitation printer or a calligrapher -- or both. Because, really: Unless your handwriting is completely indecipherable, your neatest writing should probably do the trick. And in fact, this is what most experts say.But calligraphy IS very pretty, and if you like the idea of your invitations arriving with that bit of extra style, there are genuine calligraphers who will not only address your envelopes for you, but produce any other lettering required for the event.
Or, as Meg suggests, you can get yourself the book and try it yourself. Even left-handed me has managed some creditable calligraphy in her time. Perhaps you could have some of your creative friends over for a calligraphy class, and do the invitations together!
