Rather than a classic wedding photographer, some people opt for a photojournalist. What's the difference? Both types of photographers (properly trained, of course) are professionals, equally capable of taking beautiful pictures. It's not a matter of talent or competence, but one of style and emphasis. A wedding photographer will emphasize the portraits. Beautiful posed pictures will form the core of your wedding album. There may be some candids included, but the foundation is those portraits. A photojournalist, however, will focus on the candids. There may be some posed portraits, but they prefer to take a "candid, documentary approach".
I'm guessing that this, like so many other things, will be influenced by the type of wedding you plan, and your own personality. Candids or posed, portraits or spontaneous: it's your call for your day.
