It seems like a good idea. Get married on the long weekend. Everyone has the time off, everyone's used to traveling, everyone has an extra day to recover from the festivities. Except ... A woman at the gym where I work out is a caterer, and was heard to be declaiming about this last month (when we to the north had our Thanksgiving)."I have to do a wedding this weekend. Holiday weddings. What a stupid idea!!" When pressed for reasons, she pointed out that people are being forced to give up their holidays with their own families, that anyone who travels will have to do so when airports are filled to capacity, and that the couple will likely have to pay extra for some services, if they require them on the holiday itself.
"Do you think your guests are going to thank you for spoiling their holiday weekend?" she snorted. "One thing you can guarantee: They won't forget your anniversary!"
You know, I can see her point. Which has me wondering: I was married on a holiday Monday last spring. Should I be apologizing to my guests?
