By now, I'm sure you've heard all about how shades of pink or blue are totally acceptable substitutes for white or ivory when choosing a wedding gown. Emmy Rossum incorporated this trend with some boldly colored accents at a cancer awareness benefit with stunning results. Her look could work for you on your Big Day by following a few of her rules.

  • She chose soft color that complements her skin tone -- Do you notice the way the pink in the dress brings out the pink in her cheeks, making her look youthful and healthy and just gorgeous? If you choose to use soft hues, choose wisely. If you aren't sure what colors will best work with your own coloring, talk to a makeup artist for some tips.

  • The embellishment on her gown accentuates the style of the gown -- If you choose a gown with a lot of beading or embroidery, make sure it works with the cut of your dress and not against it. Her gown comes close to looking overly busy, but because the beads emphasize the gathers and unique folds of the dress, it totally works.

  • She goes big on the dress and easy on everything else -- While I would have liked to see at least some small earrings, I can't complain about her overall look. Her hair is pulled back softly, leaving the focus on her face (and of course, on that dress), and any heavy jewelry or makeup would only have detracted from the effect. Along the same lines, she really played up her eyes and left her lips light and fresh looking.
