Elizabeth Hurley first raised headlines (and eyebrows) in 1994 when she showed up with Hugh Grant at the premier of Four Weddings and a Funeral in that famous Versace safety-pin dress. And so, it's no wonder that the world waited with bated breath to see what amazing ensemble Donatella Versace would create for Liz for her wedding to Arun Nayar in March of this year. It wasn't quite as daring as the afore-mentioned black number, but it was striking nonetheless. Elton John and husband David Furnish, Elle Macpherson, and designer Valentino were just a few of the famous faces in attendance.

But that wasn't enough for this couple. One wedding One country One culture was not enough to express their love (or extraordinarily deep pockets) -- no! They went on to hold a week-long ceremony in India, centered around a Hindu ceremony on March 9 at Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur. In addition to staying in the Taj Hotel and attending lavish black-tie parties held in their honor, the couple and some 200 pals joined in a game of cricket and slept outdoors in tents (although I imagine they weren't exactly "roughing it").

It wasn't all dancing white horses and celebrities arriving in purple helicopters, though.

The celebration turned violent when the press and security brawled over photogs attempting to get shots of the couple entering Meherangarh Fort. And, in case that's not enough drama, the couple caused a ruckus with Mumbai authorities when a friend throwing a party for them erected a structure on the beach that was in violation of a high court ruling. Part of the structure in question was demolished prior to the party as a result of several residents lodging complaints.

Oh, there was also the small issue of Nayar's father offering up evidence against his son and new daughter-in-law in a case that could potentially land Hurley in jail for reportedly violating Hindu law by allegedly leaving her shoes on during the ceremony and the two of them sitting on a couch instead of the floor. He publicly disowned the couple, claiming Liz treated him like a second-class citizen during the numerous ceremonies, although she reportedly offered to reimburse her new inlaws for a canceled $60,000 party, which leads us to the next issue ...

Liz is also under fire for allegedly failing to pay up for her English ceremony at Sudeley Castle. She and Nayar had supposedly made an informal agreement that a donation would be made as payment for their ceremony, but instead they commissioned a dozen embroidered church kneelers for the chapel. I've got to think that this is just a misunderstanding, though -- who would foot the bill for dancing horses and fabulous saris and not send some good will the way of the good book? Perhaps the church overestimated the intended donation ... or at least I sure hope that's the case.
