In March of this year, Michael Jenson of AfterElton.com wrote about Disney's discriminatory policies regarding its Fairy Tale Wedding packages. Was this service available to gay couples? No, because the park required a Florida marriage license, and Florida does not grant them to same-sex couples. As Jenson points out, however, the park is only responsible to provide a venue for a ceremony; it is up to the state to validate the marriage. In short -- while not everyone can have a marriage in Florida, anyone can have a wedding.

But it's not fair to make Disney into the bad guy here. They have, in fact, quite inclusive policies, allowing same-sex couples the same benefits as hetero couples, and gay pride events on site. A month after Elton's article came out, Disney started offering its very popular Fairy Tale Weddings to gay couples.

Is it social progress, or simply the profit motive? It doesn't really matter. Fact is, everyone who wants one can now have their Fairy Tale Wedding.
