Fireworks displays at weddings that last over ten minutes are too long. There's too much other stuff going on to dedicate more than ten minutes. I shoot weddings, birthdays, reunions, anniversaries or any other private event in Texas. Most of my shows last less than ten minutes, depending on the budget, generally two thousand dollars or less. Most professional fireworks companies won't touch a show for less than 5 grand these days because of insurance/liability issues. Most venues I shoot are outside the city limits. Texas law says persons may possess and shoot fireworks outside city limits year round, with a few exceptions. Also, due to close proximities of spectators to the shooting site, I shoot Class C pyro. It's a smaller scale fireworks than the big display stuff, but it's just a effective for the setting and safer. although Class C pyro requires no special permit from the state, it's always a good idea to notify the local constabulary. They get nervous and cranky when they get left out.

I live on the Gulf Coast of FL and the companies I have used for weddings charge about $1000/minute. That includes the insurance (as mentioned by the above poster), the placement of the barge in the water, and all permits needed, in addition to contacting all the necessary parties (local fire department, coast guard, etc.).

I agree with Andy....a little bit of fireworks goes a long way! 5-10 minutes is great. Anything more is overkill.
