From Red Carpet to Altar: Queen Latifah and Michelle Pfeiffer

There's a reason The Little Black Dress is considered a must-have item for any woman at all concerned with fashion -- it's flattering to pretty much any skin tone and size (seriously, look to the right. If it works for both Queen Latifah and Michelle Pfeiffer, it can work for you), and it's nearly always appropriate."Except at weddings!" you say. "You can't wear black at a wedding!"
Actually, you can, and it's a fantastic way to dress bridesmaids whose sizes range from two to 28. I officially give you permission to dress bridesmaids in black under the following conditions:
- You're not having a morning ceremony.
- You still select a style that's appropriate (don't put them in elaborate prom dresses just because they're black -- style matters as much as color).
- The rest of the wedding decoration goes along with the dresses. And no, I don't mean everything needs to be black. What I do mean is that your bridesmaids gowns set a certain level of formality at your ceremony -- elegant black dresses have a different feel about them than flouncy pink chiffon numbers. If you choose to dress your gals in black, don't decorate your reception with tons of pastel colors and daisies and unicorns.
- You're still choosing a flattering style. If you're selecting black because it's slimming, don't put them in a dress that would make Kate Bosworth look pregnant.
- You are comfortable with black. It is your wedding, after all, and if you feel like it looks morbid, you're going to be unhappy.
One extra bonus to dressing your maids in black -- THEY MIGHT ACTUALLY WEAR THE DRESS AGAIN. No matter what you say about the gorgeous pink gowns you've been looking at, after your wedding, that dress will likely sit in the closet.
