British actress Billie Piper was married in a very low-key ceremony on New Year's Eve . Ms Piper, who made a name for herself as the youngest artist ever to debut at number one in the UK singles chart with "Because We Want To", in 1998, has since abandoned her mediocre singing career and gone on to develop a name for herself as an actress.

First, as the faithful sidekick to the utterly gorgeous David Tennant in the classic British series Dr Who, and, more recently as a glamorous call girl in Secret Diary of a Call Girl, the television adaptation of the popular blog, Belle du Jour.

Bilie has, by her own admission always been obsessed by wedding dresses. "Every time I open a script and there's a wedding, I say, 'Yes, I get to get married again!'"

However, at her very small and private wedding ceremony on Monday evening, Piper, 25, wore a disappointing outfit. A low-cut ivory wedding dress with a black coat draped over her shoulders. Not very impressive then, for a so-called wedding freak. She had 4 bridesmaids in short purple dresses, lending a slightly gothic air to the proceedings.

The villagers who lined up to watch Billie arrive at her wedding were disappointed by the distinct lack of fanfare and glamour.

In an report by Times Online, Rosemary Smith, a watching housewife, said she was not impressed. "She looked very ordinary," she said. "I had expected her to be a bit more glamorous. She didn't have anything in her hair – no flowers, no nothing."

Perhaps the only reason to get excited by the wedding was the appearance of the delicious David Tennant.

Who cares what she wore to her wedding, or how exciting it was? It's Billie's wedding, and people should be HAPPY for her, not snarking about how she wasn't glamorous enough.

Low-key weddings are still weddings, and frankly, I say congratulations to Billie and to hell with anyone who thinks that just because she's a celebrity, she has to be 'over the top' in every part of her life.
