The one thing you don't want to wear to a daytime wedding is black. (Unless you think the marriage is a disaster and won't last - in which case a slightly funereal look will get your message across. You might offend the bride though so be prepared.)
Sequins are inappropriate too, as is any type of cocktail dress. (Don't take your inspiration from tacky celebrities who don't know any better.) As a rule of thumb, wear what you would for any other daytime social event - having the word 'wedding' attached to it doesn't automatically mean you should dress up like a Christmas tree, and tone down on the 'sexy' factor. It's a bit silly to slink around like a sex siren, whether the sun is blazing or it's raining cats and dogs...sexy works stupendously well in the evenings only.
A pretty skirt suit or floral dress works well for women, and sharp and snazzy pants suits always look very slick. Try and stick to bright colours and lighter fabrics. Palazzo pants are very stylish, when worn with a smart top. In winter, velvet trousers with an elegant silk blouse will be warm and very chic. As for leather trousers - in my opinion no woman should venture further than her front door in a pair of leather pants, unless she has the body of Angelina Jolie. Nothing makes your butt look more sadly saggy than leather.
For men, summer or spring daytime weddings call for light-colored suits. In cooler months, darker colors (charcoal grey, for example) are better. Don't ever wear a tuxedo during the day time, regardless of the formality of the event - it is totally out of place and you'll look a right muggins...don't be surprised either, if other guests ask you to refill their drink!
