Often, when a girl finds herself engaged, several friends start sporting rings around the same time -- I don't know how much of it has to do with timing and age, and how much of it is related to a domino effect. At any rate, doesn't it seem crazy that each couple buys or rents new decorations? That's a lot of cash to shell out between you and all your pals -- why not consider swapping decorations with each other and sharing the cost?

Items like white Christmas lights, cloth napkins and tablecloths, silk plants, and vases are used by many brides and grooms and have more than one use in them, so swapping might be a great option. Of course, this will only work if both of the following conditions are met:

  • First, and most obvious, your wedding schemes need to be similar, and for the bride who has to be one-of-a-kind, that can be an issue.

  • Second, you need to have a lot of trust in each other. The couple who is married first needs to make sure the decorations are kept in good repair, and if the decorations are unusable after the first wedding, that couple needs to pay up.
If you're comfortable with this, this is a fantastic idea. Just remember that saving a few bucks isn't worth losing a friendship, so you might be better off looking to sell your decorations after the wedding, perhaps on a thread like this. Reusing decorations is not only cost-effective, but eco-friendly as well, so it's well worth checking out.
