American film star Grace Kelly married Prince Ranier of Monaco in April of 1956. They had two weddings, a civil ceremony that took place at the palace on April 18, at which all 142 of Kelly's new titles were recited, and a church ceremony the following day. The second ceremony was attended by 600 guests, including a variety of Hollywood celebrities. Frank Sinatra planned to be there, but changed his mind at the last moment, afraid of upstaging the bride, while England's Queen Elizabeth refused the invitation outright, on the grounds that there would be "too many movie stars."The couple were married for 26 years, until Princess Grace's death in1982.
