Traditionally, a wedding cake has usually been a multi-tiered concoction of fruitcake, coated in marzipan and white royal icing with plenty of piping detail. (That was what I had at both my weddings.) Today's bride, however, has a huge selection of styles to choose from and there are so many factors to consider when making a choice, from when to order the cake to what kind of cake topper to have, if at all.

Modern brides are often opting for multiple flavours in their tiers, with a mix of chocolate cake and sponge making an appearance, as well as the hottest current trend– cupcake wedding cakes.

As lovely and individual as all these fabulous new-style creations are, I still quite like a beautifully simple, white wedding cake. And just because it's white doesn't mean it has to be dull and boring.

Just check out this gallery of stunning white cakes and you'll see what I mean!
