Christina Applegate made a stunning statement at the 2008 SAG awards in this shimmering Elie Saab number. Any bride would be lucky to have such a glow on her wedding day, and given the dreary weather on that day, that's saying something.

It wasn't just luck that made this look work so well for the erstwhile Kelly Bundy (and by the way, her current sense of style is even more impressive when you consider the fact that she started her career on Married ... With Children). There are several elements that had to come together to make Christina look this great.

  • The shape flatters her shape -- The high waist and interest at the hem makes her legs look a mile long. Adding to the lengthening effect are the vertical lines running all down the dress. Take away the tiered hem and this is a great way to add height for the petite bride.

  • Old school glamor takes on a modern twist -- The beading of the dress is reminiscent of the Golden Era in Hollywood, and Christina plays up that fact with a timeless satin clutch and classic jewelry.
  • She tops it off with great hair -- Instead of going over the top in the coiffure department, Christina pulls her hair back loosely and allows the focus to remain on her fabulous dress.
Brides should keep this in mind -- don't try to go too fancy in too many ways. With a really detailed gown, the accessories (including hair and makeup) should be kept on the simple side to avoid looking like all the elements were chosen separately. That's why this is such a fabulous look -- it truly is an entire look, and obvious care was taken in putting it together, which is exactly how you should look as a bride.
