From Red Carpet to Altar: Becki Newton at the 2008 SAG Awards

Becki Newton was my favorite look on the entire red carpet at this year's SAG Awards. The Ugly Betty star was anything but ugly in this incredible tiered gown, and one can't help but think of bridal fashion when gazing at the white silhouette (or at least I can't, but then again, I do write about weddings for a living). There's nothing to dislike here -- she looks fresh and young, but retains a sassy, sexy appeal. If you find this look as fantastic as I do, and if you'd like to emulate Becki Newton on your Big Day, here are a few tips:
- Don't waste a good waist -- Granted, Becki Newton is a teeny-tiny girl, so it's not hard for her to look great in just about anything. However, you'll notice that this dress has a defined waist, and even though the dress is mostly straight, that definition along with the tiered skirt really accents her slight figure.
- The V is victorious -- The wide v-neck serves the same purpose -- a wider v-neck will make one's waist look even smaller. Be careful of this neckline, though, if you're really busty. In that case, a smaller v-neck might be more flattering.
- Go with the flow -- The dress has a formal impact because of all the detail, but the feel is light and airy. Becki plays this up with minimal jewelry and soft, wavy hair. The overall effect is soft and modern, but the gleam in her eye and sassy pose keep her from looking too innocent.
