Prenups -- for your BRIDESMAIDS?

We've written before about the crazy things people demand in prenuptial agreements, but here's a trend we never saw coming: according to a survey conducted by You & Your Wedding magazine, one in five brides now asks her attendants to sign a prenup.

What are these brides requiring of their bridesmaids? That they not gain any weight or change their hair or get pregnant on purpose, for starters. And brides are reserving the right to fire any attendant who violates the contract.

Of course, of the brides surveyed, nearly 15 percent admitted that they were "taking steps" to prevent being upstaged by their bridesmaids, while another 14 percent said that they chose their attendants based on family politics, not friendship.

According to an article in the Daily Mail, You & Your Wedding "has devised its own contract outlining how a bridesmaid should act, including not consuming more than 10 units of alcohol or making any inappropriate advances towards male guests."

What ever happened to surrounding yourself with beloved friends and family on your wedding day? I guess it's more important that everyone's hair match and that no one be prettier than you. What say you -- would YOU have your attendants promise not to be prettied than you on your wedding day? And would you "fire" a bridesmaid who turned up pregnant, or gained ten pounds, or cut her hair?

I've heard crazier things! Especially when one of your best friends is one of "those" kinds of girls. Getting her to promise not to seduce the groom or the groomsmen (married and unmarried alike) should be high up on the to do list!

I have a question. My fiancée and I decided to have a smaller wedding with very very few friends (16 including spouse/GF/guest, this number is including the wedding party). We both chose four brides maids and four groomsmen which include the best man and matron of honor (all of her friends are married). We both live in Atlanta, but have chosen Charleston and have almost everything booked. My fiancée recently found out that her Maid of Honor is pregnant and is due FOUR DAYS after our wedding day and another is due two weeks before. The maid of honor said she thinks that the baby will come early as her mom delivered all of her sister a month early. The other bridesmaid says that she will definitely come, but there will be a two week old coming with. One of the girls will be traveling out of state and the other is about 150 miles away from Charleston. I am so disappointed because she has looked forward to this day for so long. Luckily the wedding isn't for 8 months and we haven't sent out the 'save the date' cards yet. I know there is some proper etiquette in handling this matter, but just don't know what to do. (The maid honor offered for my fiancée to ask someone else to take her place, but how to you replace your best friend!) Know don't get me wrong, we are happy for them, but saddened at the same time. We have thought about scaling down the wedding and really just having family, but is that appropriate or 'selfish'. Is that rude considering we have already asked the 'attendees' who are in the wedding? We are not trying to make a decision of how people will perceive us, we just don't want to hurt anyone how we have felt we have been hurt. And the maid of honor commended my fiancée saying, "you are being such a good sport in light of all of this," but you know what I know how upset she is. It just kills me when I see it in her eyes and it saddens me as well. We have been put in such a difficult position and don't know what to do. Any advice would help. Thanks, Guy from Atlanta
