Choosing the right champagne
I'm the first to admit -- I'm not really a champagne snob. I haven't tried Cristal, and I tend to go more by budget when purchasing a bottle than by the latest issue of Wine Spectator. That being said, I do love the bubbly, and truly believe that keeping a bottle in the fridge encourages celebration (My new shoes only gave me two blisters! Cheers!).I'm well aware that not everyone likes champagne, but I was recently fortunate enough to take a wine tasting trip to Temecula in Southern California, and I discovered that there just might be a bubbly for everyone. Don't believe me? Just check out the different varieties I got to experience:
- For the red wine devotees: South Coast Winery's Ruby Cuvee. It's red and sparkly like a ruby, but sooo delicious and different -- a perfect choice for a Valentine's Day wedding or any Christmastime celebration.
- A little fruitier: La Cereza Winery's Peach and Raspberry Champagnes. Sweet and definitely a tasty treat for non-wine drinkers, these varieties would make a great option for a daytime wedding especially.
- My very, very, all time favorite: Wilson Creek Winery's Almond Champagne. They call it the "Oh my gosh" champagne and I'm embarrassed to admit that I said exactly that. I can't imagine anyone disliking it -- even my husband enjoyed it. And, by joining their wine club, we can buy it by the case for a serious discount! Come on by and I'll raise a glass to your engagement!
