From Red Carpet to Altar: Debra Messing at the 2008 SAG Awards

I've heard mixed reviews about Debra Messing's 2008 SAG Awards look, but I've got to give the girl props. Other than the hair that seriously needs a pick run through it, and the fact that the top of the dress fits a little too tightly and makes it look like something's trying to sneak out from between the choker and the neckline (not in this picture, but when she moved, watch out!), I think she has a remarkable look going on.Alright, now that I'm done being all snarky, I have to say this is a truly stunning gown (all the more reason she should have bothered to brush her freakin' hair!). If you have a slim build, a style like this might be perfect for you. Let me tell you how to work it:
- Don't be a hippy -- A gown like this just won't work if you have some hips going on. Plenty of other styles will, and hips can be sexy. Just not in this exact style -- please believe me.
- Jewel tones + Nude tones = HOTNESS -- The gems across the bust and neckline of Debra's gown wouldn't have nearly the impact if her gown were a strong color to begin with. They're stunning because her skin and dress are both fair, providing a fabulous background for the stones.
- Who needs a necklace? -- Aside from the aforementioned hair, Debra makes a wise choice in not trying to add anything to the already fabulous neckline of the gown. If you have a gown with its own bling, choose jewelry and other accessories carefully.
- Commit, commit, commit -- If you choose a style like this, be ready to commit not only to your new husband, but to your gown. You'll need to stand up straight and know how to pose properly to pull this off. A slouchy, unsure bride is just going to look foolish. Look confident and glamorous, though, and no guest will be able to look away.
