How to avoid the unexpected on your big day? As much as humanly possible, plan for it. Here is a list of possible glitches:1. If your wedding is outdoors, be prepared for bad weather, either an indoor location or large, comfortable shelter: marquees or something similar.
2. Expect people to get lost. Provide maps to everyone: not just your guests, but wedding party, parents, caterers, photographer ... everyone.
3. Prepare an emergency kit, stocked with needle and thread, Tylenol, stain remover, etc.
4. Expect the emergency kit to get lost. Have a second one prepared and stashed somewhere at the venue.
5. Order extra food for those people who forgot to RSVP, or who just assumed that their invitation included "guest."
6. Expect things to fall behind schedule. Allow an extra 10 - 20% for each item on your agenda. If an activity is supposed to take an hour, allow an hour and ten minutes.
7. If you have a pregnant bridesmaid, expect her to go into labor the night before the wedding. Prepare an alternative arrangement of your attendants down the aisle, and practice it at the rehearsal.
This is our list. We're sure there are more, so we're asking: What about you? What are the hiccups you've planned for in your preparations?
