It's the moment we long for, and yet sometimes dread. Meeting the parents. Up until then we can tell ourselves that our relationship isn't that serious. It's just a bit of fun. Right? He's someone we have a laugh with, maybe have hot sex with and probably share a few great holidays with too. And then he throws a curve ball. He wants to take you to meet his parents. When that happens, suddenly your relationship moves up a gear and, quite possibly, a proposal might be not so much further down the line. Or at least, he considers you marriage material.

Is this the case in Penelope Cruz's relationship with Oscar-winner Javier Bardem? After his Oscar win on Sunday, Javier celebrated the moment with both his mother and his girlfriend. It's not that Penelope hadn't met Pilar Bardem before. They've worked together previously in two movies, but socialising together as possible future in-laws is something else entirely. Javier must be serious about Penelope.

Earlier in the evening, the actor dedicated his win to his mother, thanking his grandparents for bringing dignity and pride to the family. That says a lot about Javier's relationship with his mother and it also means Penelope has quite a lot to live up to. Not that she has any worries, after all, she is Penelope Cruz!
