There were several pieces to my decision.
1) I'd already been married and it took a while before I could switch back to my maiden name. 2) My husband doesn't really care & doesn't want to put his "brand" on me. 3) It's really such a hassle to change SSN, DL, banking, financial, payroll, utilities, credit cards, etc. There's so much it really is overwhelming. 4) I didn't want to go through the hoops at work. 5) I'm too lazy to hyphenate.
Our son has his dad's last name & I'm perfectly fine with that. And if someone calls me Mrs. Husband's-last-name, I'll answer to it. So far, it works for us. But who knows how complex it will be when the little guy starts school?
