Coldplay frontman Chris Martin was recently spotted riding his bike near the home he shares with wife Gwyneth Paltrow, with a funky red manicure, but WITHOUT HIS WEDDING RING.

Call the press! Clearly the couple are splitting up! Oh please.

The last year has been a busy one for the couple; Martin's band has a new album coming out soon, and Paltrow has returned to work, making two films back to back. They also have two small children, Apple, 3, and Moses, 2. According to a source close to the couple, "They have been apart almost as much as they have managed to be together, and with her going off in one direction, and him in another, there has been little time for them to spend together and it's taking a toll on their relationship."

The same source, though, says that Paltrow and Martin are thinking about having a third child.


Okay, I have to admit that I usually scoff at those celebrities are just like us! stories, but really, this sounds a lot like my own marriage. My husband and I have been together for nearly 16 years; we have two kids. We also have two careers, and we've gone through periods where work took precedence over everything else.

And my husband often goes to the office without his wedding band. And sometimes, my kids paint my fingernails. Badly.

None of that signals a marriage in crisis; instead, it goes to show that marriage is often about more than the rings or the romance. I hate to hear that any couple is splitting up, particularly one with children, but honestly I'm not seeing much here to indicate that Martin and Paltrow are parting ways, just that they are busy working parents of little kids.

Now I just hope they don't make me eat my words.
