Wedding favors with a conscience: Saving the planet one guest at a time

"If you love your planet, if you love your children, you have to see this film." - An Inconvenient TruthA bride-to-be, attempting to do whatever she can to help the earth-in-crisis, realizes that the thing to do would be to "encourage everyone [we] know to watch this movie". She explains how her and her groom decided they wanted to give "An Inconvenient Truth" DVD as the gift to each of their wedding guests. What a caring, timely and truly thoughtful gesture. But here's where they encountered a rather opposite-of-convenient reality - at $30 a pop, and with 300 guests, that's over $9000 for wedding favors.
Here in a currently snowy Toronto, Canada, Peter Silverman of Silverman Helps on CityTV News is a local media ombudsman "who'll speak for you in places your voice won't be heard". When Jennifer Lee-Poy and Alessandro Bonciani contacted the show, Silverman took it right to the source by contacting Al Gore's office directly. He was soon directed right to Paramount Home Entertainment, who were only too pleased to offer the young couple a significant discount in order to achieve their goal. And now, at least 300 more people will have the option of learning the truth, be it inconvenient or just plain stark. Nonetheless, a message that the couple felt critical enough to share with the people they love.
Whether you buy into Gore's depiction of the current state of affairs or no, we can all agree that a little cerebral controversy, that might very well incite change in one way or another, certainly beats yet another sterling silver picture frame ...
