There are all sorts of problems that can arise on your wedding day, but when you plan ahead, very few of them are a big deal. One thing that is a big deal, though, is getting sick. With all the nerves and stress leading up to the big day, your immune system will definitely be compromised. Here are some tips that will keep illness from ruining the happiest day of your life.

Take preventative steps

Even if you don't feel sick, it's a good idea to be gentle with your body in the days before the wedding to keep yourself from being too vulnerable to illness. Taking a multivitamin is a great way to toughen your immune system -- ask your doctor what vitamins are right for you. If you feel an illness coming on, don't be shy about seeing your doctor. It may be nothing, but better to be safe than sorry, and your doctor can prescribe medicines that may be able to keep oncoming illnesses at bay if you catch them early enough. Of course, remember to eat healthy foods and drink plenty of water.
Dealing with illness on the big day

Maybe you did all you could, but you still couldn't keep the flu away. Well, crap. But don't panic -- that'll only make things worse. Fill your emergency kit with medicine and vitamin C, and keep water or juice handy all day. Wedding ceremonies are short. Just pull yourself together long enough to say your vows, then take a few minutes to rest and collect yourself if you need to after the ceremony. At your reception, sit down and let people come to you. If you need to slip away for some air or a quick nap, that's okay. Keep drinking fluids and don't force yourself to eat anything that doesn't want to go down. Assign someone from the bridal party to look out for you during the day to make sure you're not overdoing it.

Being sick sucks, but wedding day adrenaline will be enough to get you out of bed, and you can rely on your emergency kit and your close friends to help get you through the rest of the day. You'll be fine.
