People just love to take offense at things, don't they? Avoid the controversial, as Meg suggests. The other option, to avoid those so very delicate sensibilities, is to offer more than one charity. At our wedding, we asked for cash, it being our second wedding and our home already full of stuff.
For those who weren't comfortable with that, we offered the Heart and Lung Association, in honour of my grandfather who died of emphysema; and the Parkinson Foundation, in honour of my new MIL, who suffers with it. Maybe those are not as fun to shop for as some neat gizmo for my home, but these were more meaningful for us.
Where's the offense in that?
