My husband - not a tall man - wears cowboy boots when he officiates, because they're one of the few bits of masculine footwear with a decent heel, and he figures he could use the extra height, particularly when standing between a tall groom and a bride in 4-inch heels!
With your tall man sporting an extra inch, I'm not surprised you wore boots, too. It'd be a matter of self-defense! And they sound lovely -- very bridal.
