In spite of all the arguments with her fiancee, bit-part actor Rossano Rubicondi, Ivana Trump is getting married today at Mar-a-Lago and it will be a vulgar display of tastelessness, if the details we've heard about are true. There are the six dresses the bride is planning to wear during the day, each one costing around $24 000, in front of 600 guests. (Can anyone actually know that many people so well that they should be at their wedding? Can the bride and groom greet them all?) There's the 12-foot high cake, with hand-carved chocolate and then there's the 25-piece band flown in from Paris.
What about a flower bill of over $60 000? And the champagne, Taittinger, at $300 a bottle. Oh and let's not forget the very VIP guest list which includes such illustrious members of society as the Lauders (you know, the beauty product people), the Hiltons of hotel fame, actor George Hamilton and singer Natalie Cole. Are these people really good friends or just there to witness a crazy show of wealth and one-upmanship?
Joan Collins, who was asked to be a bridesmaid (the lady is 74, Ivana, not 24), is unable to attend and another non-show will be Dame Shirley Bassey. It seems that anyone who is, well, anyone, will be there
This is going to be one heck of a wedding. Or, more accurately, a ridiculously overpriced, madly extravagant, overblown 'stage production'. One can only hope that the marriage lasts long enough to justify the expense or it will all boil down to one seriously decadent and unnecessary party for the rich. Something, perhaps, to show up ex-husband Donald's equally extravagant 2005 nuptial celebration to Melania Knauss. And nothing more.
