First off, we have to admit that we kind of love Bejeweled. It's one of those simple, silly, addictive video games that sucks you into your computer chair and just won't let you up until you've beaten a certain score. Plus, sparkly jewels!Computer programmer Bernie Peng knew his girlfriend, Tammy Li, loved the game, too, and when it came time for him to propose, he came up with a unique idea. He modified the Bejeweled program so that when Tammy reached a certain score, an engagement ring would appear with a proposal. It was tricky, and took him about a month to complete.
Tammy reached the necessary score and happily accepted his proposal, and now that their story has been made public, PopCap (the company behind Bejeweled) is planning to fly them out to Seattle as part of their honeymoon. One might think the company would frown upon somebody reprogramming their game, but a PopCap spokesman said, "... it won him a woman. As a bunch of geeks we have to say, 'Bernie, hats off to you.'"
