For great champagnes at better prices, steer away from the big boys and go for the smaller family producers. Your local specialist wine shop should have one or two.
I import champagne into the UK so I'm used to sourcing good value.
The one we use for our personalised champagne (http://www.personalisedwinelabels.co.uk) is produced by the Bauchet family. They do have a US importer. The family grow all their own grapes, the big names don't, and produce great champagne that wines international awards. Last month they win bronze at the International Wine Challenge, the top international competition.
