Despite reports that Nicole Richie and Joel Madden have plans in place for a wedding extravaganza at the end of this month, the National Enquirer is claiming that Joel won't marry Nicole until she converts to Christianity. She has a colorful past, filled with drug use and "Hollywood" behavior. Joel grew up attending church and wants Nicole to find God and ask forgiveness for her past sins so that they can raise baby Harlow in a Christian family. And, according to the article, Nicole seems quite ready to appease him.
We're not sure if we buy it -- largely because it's coming from the National Enquirer, but also because forcing someone to convert is pretty major, especially when that person has given birth to your child. If she doesn't find God, then what? Will he leave her? We think it's more likely that, if anything, he's encouraging her to find faith, but we certainly hope he's not forcing her into it. That can't lead to anything but trouble.

What has her taking drugs and partying got to do with believing in God. It didn't stop Jimmy Swaggart from going for prostitutes or Ted Haggard from the nonsense he got up to.

Converting to a spouse's religion should be more than just a whim. If you are not faithful to your own religion you are more than likely not going to be faithful to a religion you know very little about. If you are faithful to your own religion you might find the differences challenging. It is not a decision to be undertaken lightly. Sometimes, with a little cmpromise, a blending of two traditions can work out very well.

If he was such a devout Christian, he would've remembered the part about premarital relations. Guess he took a sick day when that lesson was taught. I find it repulsive that folks get things twisted in the name of religion and pick & choose the theories they will follow. Guess he took heed to the part about birth control being wrong.
