What should you have at your kids' table?
If you're going to have children in attendance at your wedding, you'll want to plan something special for them at your reception. Weddings can be boring for children, and bored children are disruptive children, and parents with disruptive children bail out early. We advise setting up an activity table for the kids at your wedding to keep them entertained and happy. But there is a right way and a wrong way to set up such a table.
Remember that kids are, for the most part, easy to please. You won't need a million different activities for them -- just one or two things that all the little ones can enjoy, and you'll want to keep these things appropriate for the wedding.
Kids will be in their nice clothes, so don't pick anything messy. Avoid activities with scissors, glitter, glue, and for goodness sakes don't even think about finger paints. Crayons and colored pencils have much less mess potential than markers.
If you want to offer more than coloring, think about things that are hands-on, but don't make huge messes and don't have lots of tiny pieces. Play dough is okay, but silly putty is better. Who doesn't love silly putty?
The kids' table shouldn't be a huge source of stress for you, but many people make a much bigger ordeal of it than necessary. You don't need to bring a whole toy chest -- kids have a remarkable ability to entertain themselves with only a few basic props. Just make sure that what you do supply isn't going to ruin anyone's nice clothes or send anyone to the ER when they put it in their mouths.
