Buying your wedding dress online: Interview with Jay's Bridal and Special Occasion
Filed under: Fashion
This is Part Two of our series of interviews with Jay's Bridal and Special Occasion, a one-stop bridal salon located in Gainesville, Florida and online at jaysbridal.net. Throughout the series, we'll discuss everything wedding, ranging from bridal gowns to music to tuxedos.Shopping for wedding gowns online is becoming more and more popular, but in many cases, it's a truly frightening thing to undertake. How can you feel confident that you're ordering the right dress, and the right size? What if you want the assistance you'd receive in a store without having to travel? That click of the button just feels so final.
One of the unique things Jay's offers is its online store. It began in 2005, and since then, Jay's has sold dresses to brides as far away as Australia, Ireland, and China. And what's so great about their online shop is that customers can still get the personal relationship and experience that they would get if they walked into the brick and mortar store.
"We correspond with brides through email and phone calls, and we even have a chat function now, so it's really like being there," said Joann. "We can answer their questions in real time instead of having them send us a question via email or voice mail and then having to wait for an answer. Brides don't like to wait!"
Brides still have the option to just click on through and purchase their gown on their own. "They don't have to talk to us if they don't want to," said Erica Lyn, "but most brides like having some contact with us." The Jay's associates are happy to give advice about measurements and sizing, and on occasion have even gone so far as to use people working in the store to determine the best length for custom dresses ordered online.
Joann added, "If a bride is in the store, we'll go so far as to hold up bridesmaids dresses to ourselves and stand next to her in her gown and veil so she gets the full feeling. We give our online brides as much of that experience as possible."
