We recommend two brick-and-mortar stores plus an online-only gift, charity or honeymoon registry for the most balance and variety. Add more gifts than you think you'll need - (here are our 10 wedding registry must-haves!) - and be sure to include items at a range of prices.

Most stores offer completion discounts, so if you're looking to purchase a big-ticket item, like a couch, add it to your bridal registry even if you doubt anyone will actually buy it for you. You can buy it for yourselves at a discount after the big day. The list below is in alphabetically order:


Brick and Mortar

1. Barney's New York

3. Bloomingdale's
Exclusive invitation-only events and personal shopping consultants make Bloomies an easy choice for those seeking exclusive, cutting-edge brands. Try their innovative Set Your Table Tool to mix and match china settings for a unique tabletop look.

4. Bon-Ton
Gift registry planning services, a 15% completion program and a 5% cash-back reward program make this a value-added choice for an array of well-priced home, bed and bath items.

5. Boscov's
This is a great regional option: the family-owned department store has 39 locations reaching across five states in the Mid-Atlantic. Bridal consultants will help you select gifts which can range from home gym equipment to Waterford crystal toasting flutes.

6. CB2
Shop at one of their six stores nationwide or online for their simple and affordable modern designs for the home and office. Though Crate & Barrel is it's sister store, you cannot combine these registries. There is a 10% completion discount.

8. Dillard's
The most generous completion program we've found: 20% off all items except small electrics, furniture and furniture accessories (which can be purchased at 10% off). The offer starts 60 days after your wedding date and is valid for two months.

9. JC Penney
Enjoy free shipping for your guests, a free engagement portrait at the JCPenney portrait studio, and a 10% completion discount off of all home items for one year after your wedding date.

10. Jonathan Adler
Bright, bold and cheery designs for the modern, rustic home. Design your own Adler-inspired rug, pillow or tote, choosing the patterns and colors that fit your tastes, or simply register for his signature pottery, wall decor or needlepoint curiosities.

11. Kmart
Create a "Wishlist" for a wide variety of items from pool accessories to bed sheets-all at low prices. This isn't a traditional registry, so announcement cards and completion programs are not available. The Wishlist works with a Sears login, too.

12. Kohl's
Free announcement cards include a 15% discount for guests on in-store registry purchases of $50 or more at this specialty department store with more than 1,000 locations nationwide. Their completion program features a 15% discount.

Launched in May 2010 by theknot.com GiftRegistry360 allows couples to register at any retailer and combine all of the items on to one convenient registry list.
