For most brides, the wedding dress is hugely sentimental -- even though you will probably never wear it again. So instead of just keeping it in the back of your closet, why not do something with it?

Here are some suggestions we've collected from brides and wedding professionals:
  • Use the skirt to make a bassinet lining for your future children.
  • Use the material in a wedding quilt.
  • Use the fabric in a christening gown for your children
  • Make handkerchiefs from the gown fabric, and have your monogram and wedding date stitched in.
  • Make decorative pillows for your home from your gown fabric.
  • Use the fabric to make smaller accessories like headbands, garters, and purses that you can pass down to your future daughters to use in their weddings, or give to your friends for theirs.
Of course, all of these ideas require cutting up your gown. If you can't bear that idea, there's really nothing wrong with storing it in your closet in hopes that maybe one day your future daughters will want to wear it when they walk down the aisle. But before you get your hopes up too much, just remember how we feel about the fashions of decades past.

Then again, there's always Halloween...

Remember, for an elegant effect, less is very often more, particularly on glass, where you can see the design from both sides, and it can easily get looking too busy.

We know we've talked about trashing the dress before, but we thought you'd just love this example of another couple industriously trashing her dress -- but gently. If you were a bit horrified by the though of smearing your dress with mud or even (we shudder) setting it afire, you'll be relieved to know that no wedding gowns were permanently injured in the making of this photo set!

What we loved most about this set is how much fun they seem to be having. The photographer has captured their sense of play exceedingly well. In the industrial wasteland under the bridge, in the park, splashing around in a fountain, these two are having a great time. The bride's grin alone is worth the time it will take you to click the link to see the slide show. And if that's not enough, if you've ever tried to smooch with your sweetie while on separate swings, you'll laugh out loud at that section.

All of us at AisleDash find creative inspiration from other Web sites and entertaining blogs on the Internet, as there are some true and talented gems out there to draw from. One blog I frequent for it's originality, intense and incredible color palettes and true creativity is Hostess with the Mostess (www.HostessBlog.com). The brains behind the brilliance, Jenn Sbranti, recently (and graciously!) took some time to answer a few questions that should help all brides-to-be and party planners for the upcoming wedding and entertaining seasons.

What are some up-and-coming themes in entertaining that you see emerging? For instance, we featured a pink-and-brown week on AisleDash.com, which has been a hot color-combination in weddings (and parties) for some time now, but what are some color combos or new themes that our readers might be pleasantly surprised to see in the coming seasons?

I'm starting to see a lot of color palettes featuring jet-black combined with a bright contrast color. Some of my favorite examples include yellow, aqua, lime green or coral-red paired with black. These color combos are especially great for summer because the bright element creates a playful, summery feel, and the black adds a chic, elegant factor that's perfect for special occasions like weddings and evening cocktail or dinner parties

Striking in its textures and setting, this photograph by Red Leaf Studios creates an evocative mood. The texture of the scrub trees, the rusted-out car (we hope she's got something between her dress and the mess!), the large sweep of sky above them. It's dramatic.

But the mood it creates ... Perhaps we're just being persnickety, but don't you get the feeling this couple has had a fight? Their backs to each other, he's scowling to the front, she's staring down and to one side. It seems to give the impression that they're not entirely on speaking terms just now. Wedding stress gotten to them, perhaps?

Maybe we're looking at this picture poorly, though. Maybe when you look at it, you see a couple joined in thought. Maybe you see beauty and hope. Or maybe you just see a lovely composition of light and texture. It's certainly true that every picture in a wedding album does not need to show blissful happiness. There's room for poignancy, tenderness, a certain gravity. What do you think? A couple pauses for a moment together. In this case, for a moment of prayer together. And that moment is captured, beautifully textured, and preserved forever. We love the way this couple seems to be surrounded by a circle of privacy. They've been observed, we're observing them now, but they are separate from us, together with each other and the intimacy of their private prayer.

3. Your "how we met" love story. People love to delve into the personal lives of others and your story will not only provide interesting content, it will make your wedding more personal for your guests.
4. Your attendants. Give their names and tell how you know them. Again, this kind of personal information is interesting to your guests.
5. Link to wedding registries. Although etiquette experts say not to put registry information on your invitations, it still seems okay to put this information (and even link to it) on your website.
6. Avoid rambling. A little personal information is interesting; your life story from day one might be too much. Use your best judgment.
7. Avoid using copyrighted photos and information. Just like in school, no plagiarizing and watch out for TV shows, movies, music or images that you don't have the right to use.
