Salma Hayek announced her engagement to Francois-Henri Pinault last year, but rumors about the type of wedding the couple is planning haven't surfaced until now, and it sounds like this is going to be The Wedding to go to!

Francois-Henri says that it took him over a year to convince Salma to marry him, and now that she has agreed, he is sparing no expense. As the French boss of several main fashion houses (Gucci, Yves St. Laurent, and Balenciaga), he certainly has the money to give Salma whatever she wants, and apparently, what she wants is a five-day celebration in St. Tropez.

From the first time we saw him on American Idol, we just had a feeling that Ruben Studdard would find himself a sweet girl to cuddle up with and settle down -- he just has that look about him. It turns out that we were right -- the singer is getting married this weekend in his home state of Alabama, and it sounds like it's going to be quite the affair.

Ruben, 29, will swap vows with Surata Zuri McCants, 30, today at Canterbury United Methodist Church in the swanky Birmingham neighborhood of Mountain Brook. He'll have plenty of support -- People reports that he'll have at least 20 groomsmen, dressed identically in black Joseph Abboud tuxedos from a local outfitter. No word on whether Surata will have an equal number of bridesmaids. Or if there will be anyone left to sit in the pews.

Ruben and Surata met in 2006 when she took a CD into the local Wal-Mart where Ruben was doing a CD signing. It was actually not even for her -- it was for a friend -- but Ruben was so struck by her beauty that he tracked her down in the toy department and got her digits.

You may already be familiar with the story of Kelly Gray, the 23-year-old hairdresser in Virginia who set up an eBay auction this past week for the last open bridesmaid spot in her wedding. Because her finances are tight, her hope was to get enough money from the auction to help cover some of the other wedding expenses. Her hopes were more than answered, but not by any kind of angel. Her hopes were answered by capitalism when the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group offered the highest bid, $5,700. When Gray contacted the company, they promptly upped their own bid, donating $10,000 and all the beverages for the nuptials. As for the bridesmaid spot, the company plans to launch an online contest or obtain a surprise celebrity to stand in the wedding.

Although this kind of on-the-spot, tech-oriented marketing is just what consumer brands are on the lookout for these days, both Dr. Pepper Snapple and Gray herself are coming under attack. Gray is accused of not taking responsibility for her family and finances - in short begging others to bail her out when she needs extra cash. Some even say the marriage is already doomed. Dr. Pepper Snapple, the third largest soft drink manufacturer, is probably - and predictably -- looking for small ways to irritate the two Goliath cola makers. Undeniably, this creates a whole new relationship between consumers and brands. Can anyone in need use "creative Internet" to access the kind of cash that corporations throw around daily in marketing meetings (although many similar eBay listings have gone ignored)? What does the end of that road look like?

What do you think? Is Dr. Pepper Snapple grabbing at quick and dirty publicity? Is Gray's marriage doomed? Or are all these naysayers just jealous they didn't think of it (or have the guts to do it) themselves?

Although it moved at typical TV pace (LaDonna and Darnell were married, champagne toasted and enjoyed two commercial breaks in half an hour), the TODAY Throws a Wedding grand finale was a beautiful affair. Rockefeller Plaza was decorated with Asian cranes and paper lanterns for the East Meets West theme, and every detail was complete as LaDonna and Darnell tied the knot this morning. Pastor Willie Butler, LaDonna's childhood pastor, presided over the nuptials. Both the bride and groom, looking sweet and ever so poised in front of all of America, recited their own vows from memory: Darnell offered his heart and soul to LaDonna and said he would go to the end of the Earth to see her smile, and LaDonna felt her father smiling from heaven and promised to love Darnell with every beat of her heart. Once pronounced husband and wife, LaDonna and Darnell jumped the broom, an African American wedding tradition signifying the blessed union of marriage. After a toast and an interview with their TODAY family, the new couple joined their real family and friends in the Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center for a reception.

Once the festivities are over, the couple will be traveling to Bora Bora for an unbelievably romantic honeymoon.

American morning show TV watchers have cast their votes and chosen Darnell's attire for his nuptials coming up next Wednesday on the TODAY show. And the winning outfit is...a navy suit by Hugo Boss in combination with a pale pink dress shirt and pearlescent pink tie. Experts say that adding a little color to the shirt and tie (versus plain white) also adds flattering color to the groom's complexion. Well, if you've been keeping tabs on the wedding world at all, you've undoubtedly heard that Manchester United star Wayne Rooney married his high school sweetheart, Coleen McLoughlin this weekend in an amazingly elaborate wedding in Italy. Some are calling it the wedding of the decade, but not everyone is so impressed.

Many residents of elegant Portofino were outraged at the way the young couple came in and flashed their cash (and it was a lot of cash). And, at a time when many of their fellow Brits are having a hard time filling up a tank of gas to drive to work and back, folks felt that the couple should have held back on the excesses a bit.

Still, you have to be curious about the gowns. Yes, gowns, plural -- Coleen had three of them for her big day. But, since the couple signed an exclusive deal with OK! Magazine for the wedding photos, we won't get a good look until they're released online (unless we want to go to the grocery store and pick up a copy, but we're not that anxious).

A small, private, island ceremony might sound just perfect to a lot of people, but not to Mariah Carey. Her style is far more ostentatious, and after she and Nick Cannon got back from their surprise wedding, they started planning another, much bigger wedding, more suited to the diva's taste. However, that wedding might not come to fruition.

The new Mrs. Cannon was reportedly willing to pay for the $4 million wedding, but was planning to pay for it using what she was paid for photos from the wedding. And, though half of that was reportedly shelled out by People for pictures from the first wedding, nobody seems willing to pony up an equal amount for the second vow swap.

That's not to infer that there's trouble in paradise -- the couple seems to remain happy (and yes, we're shocked as well). Nick recently flew out to Hawaii to meet up with his new wife while she shot a video, but before going to see her, he stopped in at Tiffany & Co. to pick up a little surprise for her. Maybe he does know her well!

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden are finally making wedding plans. At least according to Star Magazine they are, and while Star isn't necessarily the most reliable source in the world, they're reporting some interesting details.

The parents of six-month old Harlow are planning the ceremony, which will be held at her father's Bel-Air mansion, for June 29, but there will be oodles of other activities leading up to the main event. They intend to make it a three-day extravaganza, including events like a "Pretty in Pink" bridal shower and spa treatments for 100 of their closest friends and family.

So now that we've all shared our thoughts on the movie and voted on the dress, let's talk about how the Vivienne Westwood gown worn by Carrie ends up with a starring role in the movie and why that should be a lesson to us all: Love your dress, but don't make it the star of the show, lest you end up like Carrie and Big.

(I think we can safely say that if it wasn't for Vogue/Page Six and The Very Expensive Dress that Carrie felt obligated to show off there would have been a 75-person wedding instead of a 200 person media event, no?)

The dress, part of Westwood's Fall 2007 collection (called "Wake Up, Cave Girl" which, yes, sounds like a SATC episode) is a pure love-it-or-hate it creation, much like the rest of Carrie's wardrobe. In that sense, it's perfect for her, but there's something about the dress that just doesn't fit her - Patricia Fields herself would have preferred to dress her in the Zac Posen gown that Charlotte wore as a bridesmaid's dress - it's a little too "cream puff princess" for our favorite quirky downtown fashionista. Sure, she tried to made it her own by putting a bird on her head and wearing one of her signature brooches (as well as those Dior sandals she never seemed to take off) but the dress is just too much, and in the end she ended up committing the most heinous fashion crime of all: She didn't wear the dress, it wore her.

Ladies, let's not forget that no matter how beautiful the wedding gown, how expensive it is, or how chic the designer label - it should never overshadow YOU. Even if it is a gift from Vivienne Westwood herself. Because you (and your husband) should be the focus of your wedding day - not your dress.

Leah Wood (daughter of the Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood) is getting married to television producer Jack McDonald later this month, and you'll never guess who is performing -- or maybe you will -- the Rolling Stones, naturally!

However, that's not the wedding entertainment that's making news.

Apparently, Ronnie has the wedding planners searching for dwarves, both male and female but shorter than four feet, who will dress up and act as "mischievous, giggling little imps." The inspiration for the, uh, unusual theme is Puck from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, a sprite who made a great deal of mischief. The hired dwarves will be asked to perform acts like stealing hats and leaping out of bushes to startle guests, but will be required to sign confidentiality agreements so that they can't tell any of the guests' secrets.

Whether it's being based on Shakespeare or not, we're not sure this is a terribly appropriate choice -- is it just us or does it seem more than a little politically incorrect?

The Sex and the City movie has been ruling the box office since before it came out, and everyone's talking about it (see our review here), especially the fashion.

The show and its characters have become fashion icons over the last decade, but there are times when costume designers abuse their power and try to pass off some really hideous outfits as high fashion. Surely I'm not the only one who thinks Carrie Bradshaw's wedding getup was one of those times.

Before she selects her gown in the film, SJP models several gowns from the hottest designers for a Vogue spread. Of the group of to-die-for dresses, the one that Carrie falls in love with is, well, something I wouldn't be caught dead wearing. Honestly, it looks like it belongs in the bad-80's-clothes montage (a real treat in the movie -- I wish that scene had been longer!). What's going on with that neckline? It looks like Madonna handed down one of her old corsets to Carrie, which she wore even though it was two sizes too big. And she didn't do herself any favors by accessorizing with a bird.

Usually the SATC people really deserve their fashion honors, and I don't know much about fashion, but I do know I hate that dress. What do you think? Feel free to tell me why I'm wrong!

I really wanted to love this movie: I'm in my 30s and feel like I grew up with Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte. But as much as I wanted it to work - it didn't.

I just wasn't that into it. There, I've said it.

Don't get me wrong - I was mostly entertained by the movie and if you're a fan of the show it's a must-see. Plan a night out with the girls and have some fun. I also think that it's worth a look if you're planning a wedding. I won't reveal any plot twists and spoil the experience for you, but suffice it to say that the movie revolves around weddings and marriage - there's a wedding that gets out of control, a sexless relationship, commitment fears and, of course, a perfect marriage that works as a foil to all the drama. It's a lot to fit into one movie, and it shows.

The good news is that there's a lot of wedding style to admire - I thought that the location for the big wedding was romantic and sweet, and the bridal fashion was outrageous in a wickedly good way. And I absolutely loved the message that was sent through the choice of wedding gowns (you'll see what I mean when you watch the movie.) Early in the movie there's a fabulous wedding dress montage at Vogue magazine, where Carrie salutes dream designers Vera Wang, Carolina Herrera, Christian Lacroix, Lanvin and Dior - there's enough pretty and fantasy there to make the movie worthwhile. Almost.

Unfortunately, things go downhill from there.

This morning on the TODAY show Race for the Altar segment, we had to say goodbye to Annie and Tom from Chicago, leaving only two couples to compete in the final challenge. Melissa and Doug battled LaDonna and Darnell in all out TV game show style in the "Name That Price" competition. The couples had to buzz in and price (without going over) five household items - an Oster blender, a Rival fondue maker, a Calvin Klein bedding set, three wine glasses from Crate & Barrel (to toast the bride, the groom, and the MIL?) and a Maytag washer/dryer set. LaDonna and Darnell kicked butt in this round by picking the nearest price on four of the five items and taking all the loot home. But the segment ended with Melissa and Ryan trumping it all by winning the sixth bonus prize - a 2009 Toyota Camry.
