All of us at AisleDash find creative inspiration from other Web sites and entertaining blogs on the Internet, as there are some true and talented gems out there to draw from. One blog I frequent for it's originality, intense and incredible color palettes and true creativity is Hostess with the Mostess (www.HostessBlog.com). The brains behind the brilliance, Jenn Sbranti, recently (and graciously!) took some time to answer a few questions that should help all brides-to-be and party planners for the upcoming wedding and entertaining seasons.

What are some up-and-coming themes in entertaining that you see emerging? For instance, we featured a pink-and-brown week on AisleDash.com, which has been a hot color-combination in weddings (and parties) for some time now, but what are some color combos or new themes that our readers might be pleasantly surprised to see in the coming seasons?

I'm starting to see a lot of color palettes featuring jet-black combined with a bright contrast color. Some of my favorite examples include yellow, aqua, lime green or coral-red paired with black. These color combos are especially great for summer because the bright element creates a playful, summery feel, and the black adds a chic, elegant factor that's perfect for special occasions like weddings and evening cocktail or dinner parties

Red Leaf Studios

Striking in its textures and setting, this photograph by Red Leaf Studios creates an evocative mood. The texture of the scrub trees, the rusted-out car (we hope she's got something between her dress and the mess!), the large sweep of sky above them. It's dramatic.

But the mood it creates ... Perhaps we're just being persnickety, but don't you get the feeling this couple has had a fight? Their backs to each other, he's scowling to the front, she's staring down and to one side. It seems to give the impression that they're not entirely on speaking terms just now. Wedding stress gotten to them, perhaps?

Maybe we're looking at this picture poorly, though. Maybe when you look at it, you see a couple joined in thought. Maybe you see beauty and hope. Or maybe you just see a lovely composition of light and texture. It's certainly true that every picture in a wedding album does not need to show blissful happiness. There's room for poignancy, tenderness, a certain gravity. What do you think? Do you plan on having pictures with a variety of moods in them -- and would something like this be exactly what you'd like to see in your album?

If you'd like your own picture featured here, simply upload photos into our group Flickr Pool. We'll highlight one image every Monday. We're looking for brides and grooms and attendants and guests and cakes and shoes and anything else that was fabulous about your wedding day. Be sure to read the intro on the main Flickr page for more information, and please upload only photos for which you own the copyright.
All you have to do is take a look at Rina and Nick's first dance to know that they're crazy in love. Surprise first dance videos are a dime a dozen on YouTube, but this one caught our attention for three reasons:
  1. Skills - these two can dance!
  2. Creativity - creating a collage of "crazy" song? GENIUS.
  3. Fashion - take a look at the wedding dress! Who doesn't love a pretty gown?

Forget meats on sticks -- we want more cakes on sticks! We're completely sweet on these teeny-tiny mini cupcakes on sticks.

Of course, you don't have to put the cute little cupcakes on sticks if you don't want to -- they'd be totally adorable served on decorative spoons, itty-bitty plates, or served en masse on a tiered cupcake plate. However, while these are really designed to be a DIY project, we're going to recommend you do a trial run before you actually need them -- it doesn't look easy. But, the level of cuteness very well might make up for the difficulty. Check out the video and let us know if you're planning to tackle this yourself!
Depending on the bride's location in relation to bridesmaids, friends, and family, a number of different bridal showers could possibly take place.

Many times there's a family-based shower, which includes aunts, cousins, grandmothers, etc. Then, there might be the slightly more risque lingerie shower with the bride's best friends. And then there are the showers based on organizations to which the bride belongs -- church, work, clubs, etc.

Your bridal shower or rehearsal dinner will be the crème de la crème when you give it a French twist with these party ideas. First, set the scene with French style invitations. Depending on your budget, there are many different decorating schemes to choose from. For more formal parties, you can have the wait staff dress in blue and white striped shirts and berets for a fun extra touch. Second, create more ambiance with French inspired activities. For larger parties, you can hire a caricature artist and juggler to entertain guests in the style of a French boardwalk. Smaller get-togethers can be enhanced with fun movies set in France, such as French Kiss or, for a bit more "ooh la la," something like Femme Fatale. For bridal showers, have someone come give the gals French manicures (technically, they're not really French, but who doesn't love a manicure?). A French-inspired menu offers a variety of choices. Go formal with wine and cheese, fondue, truffles and tarts or keep it casual with croissants and berries and Eiffel Tower cookies.

One of the things we loved about getting married was that new feeling of "home." We loved having friends over for dinner and throwing parties -- for some reason, doing these things as husband and wife felt so different and fun.

If you have a friend getting married who enjoys entertaining, there are a gazillion gifts you can give her that will be both fun and useful, but it would be hard to beat a fabulous apron by Haute Hostess Aprons. They're a little pricey, running around $100 (but many are on sale for half that!), but they're really an outfit all on their own. Forget covering up an amazing ensemble -- this is an amazing ensemble!

Check out the gallery and see which one is your favorite! Or, perhaps more importantly, which one would be your friend's favorite.

Wedding Bee's Miss Toucan discusses her hesitation toward registering for big ticket items. If you don't register for them, you have no chance of getting them, but you don't want your guests to think you're greedy ... what do you think?
In case you haven't noticed, guys often don't like to put a lot of work into what they wear. That's not to say they don't want to look good -- they just don't want to spend a lot of time figuring out how to make that happen.

Dressing for a wedding, therefore, isn't all that tough for men. They wear either a suit, a shirt/tie/slacks combo, or, if it's casual, khakis and a button down. That's great and all, but it's also nice if they can add a little extra style. It's even better if what they add is functional as well.

Enter the sunglass. For an outdoor wedding, this accessory can't be beat. The right style can make a man look infinitely more chic and fashion-forward than he actually is, while wearing a sport glass will do exactly the opposite. We don't mind even seeing the groomsmen and the groom in shades before the wedding, provided the frames are removed in time for the bride to come down the aisle.

Here are some of our favorite styles for men -- some are a little trendy, some are classic, but all of them are appropriate for a wedding-type of affair.
Alright, this might not exactly "blow you away" (sorry, we couldn't help ourselves), but it might be helpful. If you're having an outdoor reception, or even just a few tables outdoors, consider incorporating these into your decor.

There is very little more annoying to us than being at a party and having to keep a death grip on our fancy little cocktail napkins, lest the wind sweep them away. There's nothing graceful about tottering after a flying napkin in heels and a fabulous cocktail dress, drink in one hand and reaching out frantically with the other.

Some folks are comfortable with their spouse being a little flirty as long as they know who's going home with whom. Others, not so much. But, the fact is that putting a ring on your finger doesn't automatically change your personality, so if you are a flirt and your spouse doesn't approve, you're going to have to be careful or risk your relationship.

This woman sought advice after she infuriated her husband by engaging in some drunken flirting at a party. She claimed she wasn't a flirt, but also wasn't normally a drinker, and was desperate to find a way to prove to her husband that it wouldn't happen again.

Queen Elizabeth has canceled her diamond wedding anniversary party because of the country's current economic state. She felt it would be "inappropriate" to have such a tony affair when her country is looking at a recession.

The party was originally scheduled for November to mark the November 20 anniversary of her wedding to the Duke of Edinburgh but was rescheduled for March because the Queen was visiting a Commonwealth conference in Uganda. It was to be held at The Ritz (the Queen's favorite venue) and have a diamond theme, with Swarovski crystal encrusted champagne bottles, jewel covered tablecloths, and more. The Queen is worried about appearing extravagant when the rest of the country is worrying about finances, so even though the party was to be privately funded by friends and attended by the Queen's children and about 60 other friends, she called it off.

I can't help but wonder how that will affect things across the pond. There are plans for a certain wedding including a political family here in the States -- do you suppose they will take a cue from the Queen and scale back?

If you're hosting a shower where the guests don't all know each other already, you may want to kick off the festivities with a game that will get everybody talking to each other to break the ice. One such game is called Guess Who?, and it's great for showers because it can be adapted for most themes.

The hostess writes the names of several well-known people or characters (which can fit within the theme of the shower) and pins or tapes one name to each guest's back. They go around talking to others, asking questions like "Am I female?" "Am I alive today?" "Am I a fictional character?" and so on until they are able to guess the name on their own back. A fun twist is to have most of the names fit the theme, but include a few that have nothing to do with it at all, just for kicks.

This fun dress by Mori Lee is perfect for an informal wedding or for the bride who just wants to have fun!

The tea-length swing skirt is made for dancing and the pretty details (embellished empire waist, vertical pleats in the bodice, lace on the hemline) just add to the girly fun!

So you're not one of those crafty maids of honor who wants to hand paint shot glasses and martini shakers for each girl attending the bachelorette party? No worries, you can still give them something classy from the heart pretty festive and useful with this -- a shot glass wedding ring.

Although, I'm trying to figure out the logistics of this, and I'm curious -- how can you lick the salt off your wrist without spilling the tequila?
