On the day his son, Levi, was born, Matthew McConaughey ripped off his shirt and proposed to Camila Alves, the mother of his newborn son. Okay, so maybe he didn't rip off his shirt -- that's just the way we like to picture it happening -- but he did propose just hours after Levi was born, and Camila happily accepted.

According to the Enquirer, Matthew wants Camila to design her own engagement ring, though he's been hunting for the diamond himself. They plan to have a beach wedding at sunset, and while they haven't set a date just yet, Matthew apparently hopes to tie the knot by Christmas.

We're all for the marriage (even if it does take Matthew off the market officially), but we're slightly concerned that it was a spur of the moment decision. Holding your baby for the first time certainly brings with it a wealth of emotions, and we hope that Matthew's proposal was something he'd been thinking about for a while and simply decided the time was right. What do you think?
Yesterday we told you how to get your marriage proposal on the big screen at a baseball game. Today we'll find out if you should. In an infamous episode of Friends, "The One Where Rachel's Sister Babysits," Phoebe ruins her boyfriend's big-screen proposal at a Knicks game when she comments to him that such proposals are tacky and impersonal. Oops.

Scoreboard proposals are nothing innovative; you see them all the time. But is the fact that they're not creative a reason to hate them? Getting down on one knee has been done before -- does that mean you're going to do it differently?

The main thing to consider is whether the person you're proposing to would find a big screen proposal more romantic or more awful. Someone who is an introvert and doesn't like the spotlight might be terrified by such a gesture. Furthermore, if you're going to propose publicly, you want to be sure in advance that the answer is yes.

Would you appreciate a scoreboard proposal?

How do you feel about scoreboard proposals at sporting events?

Jade Jagger's DJ boyfriend, Dan Williams, has marriage on his mind. He's been dating Mick Jagger's 36-year-old daughter for five years, and says, "I'm designing a ring for Jade. I've decided it's time to ask her to marry me. I've been married before, but I'll do it again. Jade's a very special woman."

Jade, an English model, jewelry designer, and socialite (and the only child resulting from the marriage between Mick and Bianca Jagger), has two daughters from a previous relationship with Piers Jackson, but has never been married.

The couple lives in both London and on the Mediterranean island of Ibiza, so it's anyone's guess as to what kind of wedding they'll have. The only thing we're pretty sure about is that it will be fabulous.
Kate Middleton might have found her prince, but before she can marry him, she needs to find one more thing -- a proper job. The Queen, who has met Kate (or Catherine, as we're supposed to start calling her now), thinks she's a perfectly lovely girl but is concerned about her lack of serious employment.

It's something she has discussed with her grandson, Prince William, and so even though Wils and Kate recently returned from a romantic holiday among speculation that he proposed while away, the Queen feels a proposal right now would be premature. According to a source, the Queen "is very concerned about what the repercussions could be if Kate is not in a stable job as and when William is ready to propose."

Ugh. Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are engaged. Again. Sort of

The couple first agreed to swap vows (instead of just the usual saliva and other grossness) last year after Spencer proposed to her on an episode of The Hills, but after they realized they didn't agree on absolutely everything, Heidi decided she wasn't ready to get married. The couple remained together, though, and have sought publicity from nearly every conceivable angle.

While it has been widely rumored that Harrison Ford popped the question to his girlfriend, Calista Flockhart, on April Fool's Day (either 2007 or 2008, depending on the source), the couple's rep is denying the engagement.

The Indiana Jones star, 65, first met the erstwhile Ally McBeal in 2002 and have been dating happily ever since. However, Harrison has two divorces under his belt, one of which cost him $100 million, so it's understandable that he might be a little hesitant to take a third trip down the aisle.

We're going to go ahead and hope that he's just putting the proposal on hold so he can film one more Indiana Jones movie before getting hitched. Wishful thinking, perhaps, but we're hoping all the same.
It looks like the MTV reality show, Flavor of Love, has seen its final days (and not a moment too soon -- sheesh!). Flavor Flav is engaged and off the market, but his fiancee isn't one of the women from his show -- she's the mother of his youngest son.

The expectation of the final episode of Season 3, which aired on Memorial Day in the U.S., was that Flavor Flav would propose to Thing 2 (yes, really), but instead he brought out his youngest son, Karma, and Karma's mom, Liz. He got down on one knee and said, "By me doing these shows, everything that I've been looking for in a woman, it's been right here within you all the time. Let me ask you this, will you marry me?"

Liz was thrilled to accept, and Thing 2 was crushed. We shook our heads in bewilderment at the whole thing.

First things first -- Kate Middleton would like for us all to refer to her as Catherine from here on out. She has always been called Catherine by friends and family, and it was only after her relationship with Prince William was confirmed that the media started calling her Kate. Until now, she's let it go, but suddenly she's making a request that her proper (and more queenly) name be used. And as far as we're concerned, that can only mean one thing ...

A proposal must be coming!!!

Wils and Catherine are currently vacationing at the very exclusive, very private, and very lavish Villa Alumbrera on Mustique Island in the Caribbean -- a perfect place for a romantic proposal. The couple has the villa booked until tomorrow, and as of yet have not commented on the engagement rumors. Once they return, the prince will begin a three month attachment with the Royal Navy. And that would give Catherine a good head start on making wedding plans ...
Actor/producer/director/legend Robert Redford has announced his engagement to his girlfriend, German artist Sibylle Szaggars. The two have been dating since 1996 and live on an eco-friendly ranch in Utah.

It's being reported that Redford's three children from his previous marriage have welcomed the news, but we can probably expect that to be the last of the news to trickle out about the actor's marriage plans. He's notorious for being fiercely private about his personal life -- the man kept the break-up of his first marriage a secret for nearly 10 years!

Redford, 71, did say this about Szaggars, who is 19 years younger: "We are engaged and very happy with that. Sibylle is my fiancee and that says everything, doesn't it?"
It wasn't long ago at all that Scarlett Johansson made the bold statement that she wasn't interested in marriage just yet -- she was only interested in committing to her career. Well, things certainly do have a way of changing, because reports are now surfacing that she and boyfriend Ryan Reynolds are engaged!

Before you scoff, know that this is not a rumor -- reps for both actors confirmed the engagement. However, they have yet to confirm any details at all.

The couple has been linked for a little more than a year, and have alternately been the subject of engagement and break up rumors for the last few months. We're rooting for them, though -- if nothing else, they're just so pretty together!

Our friends over at Switched by Engadget have posted the "Eight Best Techie Marriage Proposals" and they are certainly worth reading. If you or your honey are technically-inclined, you may find some inspiration of your own.

Briefly, here are the proposal ideas. For the full ideas, including some great videos, take a look at the original article.

1) If you're a programmer, tweak your sweetie's favorite game to show a proposal when she reaches a particular score.

2) Raise enough money to get your ad on TV during the Super Bowl or a favorite show. This doesn't sound easy to us, but one guy actually managed it (but you'll have to read the whole article to see details).

Wedding Bee's Miss Toucan discusses her hesitation toward registering for big ticket items. If you don't register for them, you have no chance of getting them, but you don't want your guests to think you're greedy ... what do you think?

Ashlee Simpson told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show yesterday morning that she intends to keep fiance Pete Wentz's marriage proposal "sacred."

The flat-iron-addicted, newly engaged singer says that, "... it was very thoughtful and he did a great job." We're wondering whether he did a great job with the proposal or with the new and improved engagement ring. And perhaps it was both, seeing as how the Fall Out Boy is quite popular with the whole family.

Pete reportedly asked Papa Joe for permission to marry his youngest meal ticket daughter, and Joe is "thrilled" to have Pete as a part of the family. We'd love to know how he feels about the bun in the oven rumors -- if, as a former youth minister, he's troubled, or whether he's thrilled with the timing (or planned the timing), seeing as how Ashlee has an album coming out soon. Hmmm ...
First off, we have to admit that we kind of love Bejeweled. It's one of those simple, silly, addictive video games that sucks you into your computer chair and just won't let you up until you've beaten a certain score. Plus, sparkly jewels!

Computer programmer Bernie Peng knew his girlfriend, Tammy Li, loved the game, too, and when it came time for him to propose, he came up with a unique idea. He modified the Bejeweled program so that when Tammy reached a certain score, an engagement ring would appear with a proposal. It was tricky, and took him about a month to complete.

Call it a burning love, if you will. When Lawrence Waterhouse III proposed to his girlfriend on Wednesday night, he set up a very romantic scene. In the gazebo outside his Chappaqua, NY home, he lit a votive chandelier and dozens more candles surrounding the area -- in the gazebo, the trees, all over.

She said yes, and the couple blew out the candles and left the area early the next morning for a trip out west. But they must've missed a candle somewhere....

At 7:15am Thursday morning, a neighbor called the fire department because the gazebo was burning. The firemen were able to put out the blaze, and only the gazebo burned. There were no injuries and the couple was able to continue on their trip. The fire chief said of the blaze, "We've had candle fires, of course, but I can't remember one at this level of romance."
